Use the three modes to calculate percentages: the value of a percentage, what percentage one number is of another, and the percentage increase or decrease between two values.
What it is for
The percentage calculator solves the three most common percentage problems without you having to set up the math by hand. Enter the numbers and see the result right away.
It is useful for discounts, interest, comparisons, goals and grades, in any situation where one value is part of another or changes relative to it.
The three modes
- How much is X% of a value: for example, how much is 15% of 200.
- What percentage one number is of another: for example, 30 is what percent of 120.
- Percentage change: the increase or decrease from one value to another, as a percentage.
When to use
- Calculate a discount or a markup on a price.
- Find the share of a number within a total.
- Measure growth or decline between two periods.
- Check grades, goals and proportions.
Limitations
Percentage change uses the first value as the comparison base, so a base equal to zero cannot produce a change. Results follow the precision shown on screen. All the calculation runs in your browser, with nothing sent to servers.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate how much X% of a value is?
- Multiply the value by the percentage divided by 100. For example, 15% of 200 is 200 x 0.15, that is 30. The calculator does this in the matching mode.
- How do I find the percentage change between two numbers?
- Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. A positive result means an increase and a negative one means a decrease.
- Is the data sent to any server?
- No. All the calculations happen in your browser.
